    The dems probably also want to pass some popular bills and dare the wingnutty House to vote against them.
    For political purposes, only, of course.

    If they were really interested in passing a progressive agenda, they would've ditched the filibuster in '08.

      some people didn't realize how insane the rethugs would really go - the Clinton era had a surprising number of real bipartisan accomplishments.

      I wrote a diary on it just after the 08 elections and basically got less than zero support.

        I know very little but I know the republican party.
        They exist to destroy democrats.
        They've made that clear for years---and any democrat who believes they can achieve worthwhile bipartisan agreement with them is wrong.

        The only legislation on which they'll agree is that which is an overwhelming win for republicans.
        I guarantee it.

      But I dont that the Senate will change the rules just for appointments
