What topics, what data were rejected, what was accepted. Best format to present data. What questions were asked by readers, publically, or privately. A lot of effort, & got people to think! Well done!

The information may have been passed on several times, reaching people you will never know. Excellent way of reaching people.

I got the impression that part of what made that group work was that it was based on personal relationships between the people involved.

      •  Some know each other, some don't. nt (0+ / 0-)

          •  Yes, but we have rules. Part of our objective is (0+ / 0-)

to listen to each other, without interrupting and insulting.  Respect.  Agreeing to disagree.  Or you're outahere!  Hey, maybe we should try it around here!

            •  The rules aren't the unique ingredient (0+ / 0-)

There are rules on dKos as well.

What makes it work in your group (again, just from what I'm reading here) is that people know each other personally and they have a stake in making the group functional.  If they didn't have a sincere interest in the dialog, it seems they would either lose interest or get marginalized by group members who are committed to the purpose of the group.  In the long-term, troublemakers wouldn't get anything out of being in the group.  It's not like Congress, where troublemakers draw a salary and get lavish (socialist) healthcare — from just showing up.

    •  Yes, I've been thinking about it. (0+ / 0-)

One of these days!  R-E-S-P-E-C-T is the overriding principal.  No name calling, no "screaming", no one sentence responses.  It does get out of hand sometimes, but hubby has an excellent sense of humor and brings it to a halt.  He is the "leader" and introduces the topics.  Health care has been a very lively discussion, as we have one member who is a health insurance salesman!  One more rule:  no BS that cannot be substantiated.  And I urge all the righties to send any link other than Fox. I never let up on Fox.  It's strangely exasperating and fun at the same time!
