i'm not sure I want the Cato institute running the show either.  Also I never saw Moore advocate America adopt the Cuban political system. It was one example of a third world state that accomplished an outcome that punched above its own weight in life expectancy stats.

The example of France, Canada and the UK were far more prominent if you actually watched the movie.

Utahrd, the segment on Cuba was put there to show up how 9/11 responders were not treated well in the US. This was coupled with a quick analysis of comparable life expectancy figures in the US/Cuba (first world/third world) and then it was off to France and the UK to look at semi-civilized first world healthcare systems.

    How dumb are you yanks?

How does Cuba pay for this health care?  At least some of it has been paid for by turning Varadero over to some very Capitalist hotel companies who sell rooms to Canadians and Europeans.  I don't think that the US could follow this financial model very well.

Minnesota, Utah & Hawaii compare pretty well with Cuba.  I don't think that Mississippi or the District of Colombia do as well.

Florida's life expectancy statistics should be pretty good, when you consider all the Cubans that moved there.  But I don't think that this is the case.

Yes, Yanks are dumb.  You have to wonder why Cubans are willing to risk being eaten by sharks to move here.

Haiti is not the example that Cato likes to use.  Hong Kong is.

... does that address my point about the flim using Cuba as an an example of a third world state punch above its weight in healthcare stats?

I might point out to you that there is a human stream flowing form poor states all across the world to enter nations like the UK, France and yes Canada as well as the US. The first three of which,  Moore actually suggested as models to copy in the US.

Yep you guys are pretty stupid.

where foriegn tourists, diplomats, and high ranking government and military officials have access to the best facilities like the one shown in SICKO the rest of cuban people are prohibited from using.

Read the entire cable HERE, it contains a very detailed description of comparisons between the conditions of Cuban hospitals that coincide with what I have been told for years by my husband's family and our friends in Cuba about thier first hand experiances.

      Cuba no es facil.

      •  I have seen this myself (0+ / 0-)

But if you see the post above, we're reminded that Moore wasn't trying to make that point. He was showing how bad 9/11 responders have been treated here, and that they would be treated better even in a communist country. True, he doesn't show treatment for the masses, but I would argue that wasn't his point.

You just agreed that the masses in Cuba are not treated well in Cuba's medical system. So if the 9/11 responders were Cuban, logically, they probably wouldn't have gotten very good treatment.  The only reason why the responders received good treatment was due to their special status as foreigners that could pay in dollars and because it'd be a propaganda coup.
