  •  Great diary. One quibble. (8+ / 0-)

These men are, after all, the Republican's own guys.

Snark?  Barely true in rhetoric, and perhaps not even there any more.  In practice the GOP screws the middle class and blue collar workers. The GOP's own guys are the have-mores, and are kept in office by clueless voters.

    •  I'm talking about how the GOP (8+ / 0-)

sells itself, not who they really are.  They base their whole appeal on being the party for "regular Americans."  True?  Of course not.  We know they are the party of the paymasters.   DADT?  That's teh gays.  DREAM Act?  Immigrants.  They can get away with shying from support for these groups without losing much (n the short run).  But if they don't visibly stand up for the very exemplars of their so-called demographic, they've got nothing to sell at all.

      That IS screwy.

Look at how the Republicans tried to treat them...when it really came down to doing something real for those first responders, the Republicans said no-can-help.

to bring something "real" for their true constituents--the mega-wealthy--they are "kept" men and women, after all, to the exclusion of anything substantive for the country at large.

But they have managed to maintain a pretty good fiction all along, enough to fool a good chunk of the electorate.  Now that they have to actually govern, we'll see if some actual non-fiction starts to creep in.
