    •  Morley Safer was a real (3+ / 0-)

      journalist, especially in his pre-60M days reporting for CBS from VN.  Eventually though, and sadly, he morphed into the High Culture Reporter for 60M, doing a lot of pieces about pianists and opera singers and the like.

      Mike Wallace actually started out (if dim memory serves) as a PR guy, then got a nifty gig hosting a late-night talk show in NYC in the 50s where he interviewed celebs and pols, etc, like Charlie Rose only with a constant cigarette going and a bit of a more skeptical, confrontational attitude.  Good storyteller and had a voice of Authority.  Always a company man though, not one to rock the boat.
