      See, before this anything the President said was irrelevant.  He had put all of his eggs in the legislative basket, and if that failed, then I did not see a way out for him or DADT being ended.

      Now, it is all about him and the Pentagon.  They will craft the policy that will shape how LBG soldiers are treated in the future.  

      I have no power over the President. I cannot even be a "swing vote" that wins him reelection, and I cannot do much to overcome legislative obstacles.

      I can however tell him my story and hope that it has an effect.  Do I have doubts? Yes.  I have many doubts.  Not just in the President but in the Congress and society as a whole.

      Apparently you would prefer that I not have any hope either.  But that's ok.  I will hope for change even when you want me to despair that things are no different than they were two years ago.
