    thread, a self identified black man said when he read the book, he was highly disturbed by the 'N' word because of all the debasing stereotypes implied.  I said that Samuel Clemens became quite cosmopolitan despite being born in rural Missouri just up the road from my granddad's family.  My granddad, steeped in rural Missouri ethos, quit listening to baseball games when Jackie Robinson entered the league, and I doubt he ever read Huck Finn and wouldn't have 'gotten' it even if he had.

    I thought the perspective from an African American's point of view was interesting, but missed Clemen's message.  A message very watered down by eliminating the 'N' word.
