  •  "Pro-punishment" (4.00)
The so-called pro-lifers are really pro-punishment; this is why they can be opposed to abortion, but in favor of the death penalty.  If there is any underlying consistency in their thinking, it is that people should be punished for behavior of which they (the fundies) disapprove.

So, as noted elsewhere in the comments, they sometimes allow for exceptions for rape or incest on the abortion question, because those women can't be held directly responsible for the pregnancy.  Of course, the most ardent proponents of anti-abortion leglislation don't want exceptions for rape, or incest, or even the life of the mother.

Probably because they blame the woman. Therefore they remain consistent, and your theory still holds.

Ask a Freeper how they feel about compulsary behavior for the men who contributed to the pregnancy and this "punish women for sex" idea becomes pretty clear.

Would you favor a law forcing men to provide 24/7 care for their unborn children (and therefore its mother), with jailtime as a consequence for non-compliance?  And by "care" I don't mean just pre-natal child support checks, I mean being there every second of the day.

Pro-lifers expect this from the woman in the situation, why not for the man?  After all if he doesn't like it... well, he should have thought about that before he had pre-marital sex, etc.

        Voila! Your double-standard.
