    It always made me feel stupid, though, as I know that those people could survive conditions that would kill me off in a couple of hours, if that.  The parts that had to do with the healing herbs and plants most captivated me.  

    Auel has the newest book in the series out now, The Land of the Painted Caves.  Maybe I'll have to add it to my Nook Wish List.

      Can you suggest come of Auel's that are better than others?
      And, yes, I forgot about the herb part. That also was cool.
      Made me think that a novel could help you survive in the woods!

        but I really can't.  It's been awhile since I last read Auel but I did read the entire series except for the most recent.  Shelters of Stone, the fifth book, was quite good as I remember.  The Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon finally got together.  The plot line may sound silly to some but I loved all the tiny details of life in the ancient times.  Just like I love Ojibwa's diaries.... may he never stop writing them.
