  •  END WOW (9+ / 0-)

The War on Women doesn't get nearly as much corporate media attention as racism or homophobia.

The only one that I know who trumpets the End of WOW is Jane Velez Mitchell, and she does so on violence against women.

I applaud Jane Velez Mitchell for repeatedly referring to WOW, but the war on women reproductive rights is far more insidious in affecting My FOUR daughter's lives, and that topic gets even less corporate media attention.

Single-payer was out at the start. The public option died. A Medicare buy-in died. The number of Americans who would be covered shrank.

is not only about abortion, but all rights to be a sexual being.  Obama is encouraging science based sexuality education, but retaining some abstinence only program funding as well. Birth control is frowned upon, rape is diminished, and pregnancy should be the result of sex.  Period (no pun intended).

All of which has impact on issues like fair pay for women, adequate childcare and paid leave policies.  It's an all-fronts war on us, and we must not forget it.

Americans are not wiling to have honest discussions about sexism as they are about racism or homophobia. Look at the hatred directed towards Hillary Clinton when she ran for the Democratic nomination; some people must have felt extremely threatened.

        •  There are a lot of people (0+ / 0-)

who would dispute you on our willingness to discuss racism and homophobia.  Hillary might have been a hate target during the campaign, but look at the pure hatred Obama has been facing as president.  A true sense of panic by whites who feel overtaken, who cannot even admit he was fairly elected and has a right to be president.

the usual response to the bringing up of sexism in America either "don't worry your pretty little head about it", or "aren't you being too sensitive"?  But, sexism is more than just tasteless jokes or offensive comments about a woman's body parts (visible and non visible).
