  •  Stupak lost women voters (7+ / 0-)

Democrate Stupak was the most visible politician fighting against reproductive rights last year.  When women saw this, the conclusion was that neither party cared much about their right to bodily integrity.  Women who voted Democratic for the first time went back to their usual voting patterns in 2010.

Expecting NARAL, NOW or Planned Parenthood to change this doesn't have resonance with politicians.  Addressing harassment, vandalism and violence against providers and patients will.  Democrats have been trying to finesse the abortion issue for decades.  It doesn't work.

Stupak lost women voters. Democrat Stupak was the most visible politician fighting against reproductive rights last year.

The question becomes: why Bart? The guy single-handedly was prepared to torpedo healthcare for 30 million--presumably some of those 30 million were pregnant--to run the reproductive rights of women.

Then, stunningly, he quits. He decides to impose his narrow religious views on millions of Americans, for decades, and then cuts and runs.

Lieberman gets a lot of press for torpedoing the public option, just because Rep. Weiner said it was the first step to single payer, but for my money Bart Stupak was the worst Blue Dog of them all.
