    A third of all Boeing planes have parts and assemblies built in China, and contracts worth $600 million in 787 parts will have been awarded there, Boeing says.

    What percentage of parts for that third of planes? Is it a radio knob or a wing? Makes a big difference. Looking at the rest of that paragraph, I'd guess it isn't much. $600 million on the entire new fleet of 787s is very small. That might cover carpet and paneling on the interior of some 787s, but not all of them.

    Compare that to the percentage of parts made outside the USA on any 2011 motor vehicle and it's almost nothing.

    It rubs the loofah on its skin or else it gets the falafel again.

      Chinese workers making $3 a dayare responsible for quality assurance on major wing and tail assemblies for the 787...

      Boeing CEO, Jim McNerny is signalling his intention to move a substantial part of the fabrication and design offshore, mostly to China.

      We folks in Seattle are particularly sensitive to the fact that Boeing facilities are being offshored or moved to nonunion states.

      It's great for the shareholders, senior management and Wall Street, and will therefore be declared a resoundingly savvy business strategy by all the wise villagers.

        And please allow me to say I'm against Boeing or Cat or any other American concern shipping as much as one single job anywhere outside this country. It is precisely there that I most agree with cedar park's distaste for corporations, though not only there.

        But, our making 2/3rds of each 787 here in the  States, certainly warrants my applauding any diplomat getting off his or her pampered ass and doing real work in facilitating the sale of those aircraft overseas.

        Even moreso when you consider it is difficult to purchase an American flag that is truely 2/3rds of American origin.
