  •  That's because most of us... (15+ / 0-)

...aren't willing to wreck the whole fracking economy to get what we want.  The Republicans are.

Frankly, I can't bring myself to feel sad that we're not willing to behave like a bunch of lunatics and spoiled three years olds to get what we want, unlike the Republicans.  Sometimes, it sucks to be the adults, but it's ultimately a better place to be.

the Apocalypse either, and if we are we are willing to wait until December 21st, 2012.

This is ridiculous hysterical rhetoric and if they do go ahead with their plans they need to remember what happened to Newt Gingrich when he tried shutting down the government.

These stupid debates about hostage taking starts with the premise that the hostages have no tools and no weapons to fight back. Defeatist politics.

      •  Obama has weapons, but no will (6+ / 0-)

Obama will talk tough until he announces the bipartisan support for the compromise he has achieved on Social Security/Medicare and healthcare reform.

This is the fight that should have been fought over the tax cuts before the election.  Now that he has given in to the Republican Econo-terrorists, they will never stop.  No hostages were saved over the tax cut capitulation, it only created an entire nation of new hostages.

The economy was relatively healthy in 1995, and could withstand a temporary shock.  I don't believe that is true today.

      •  When Gingrich shut down the gov't (4+ / 0-)

There was no Fox News and RW radio was Limbaugh & a few small timers.  CNN tried to report the news instead of trying to be Fox-Lite.

Plus, while I didn't love Bill Clinton, they had a savvy political team that was pretty good at messaging & counter-attacking.  The Obama White House is not nearly that good, at least yet.

      •  Why should we raise the debt ceiling? (0+ / 0-)

It's plenty high, and we and our children will end up paying it back. The rich and corporations won't be sharing in the sacrific, you know?

Unless I'm hear a convincing reason to believe otherwise, I think the GOP are correct on this one.

You can think about how audacious you can be in lying, cheating and stealing to benefit yourself and your rich friends.  Or you can envision how the world can be fair and just for everyone.  It's the same either way but most people think the former is a probability and the latter is an impossibility.
