  •  I read passed it (0+ / 0-)

the problem is that when things are so general, people take what they want out of it.

Many here believe that my belief makes me a part of that group.

We lament this same thing when it happens to the people we support.

    •  You have a point (7+ / 0-)

but you are engaging in the "no true Scotsman" argument nonetheless.  There is no objective criteria to judge so only people have the power to define themselves as such.  If they describe themselves as Christians, they are, even if very different than the kind of Christian you and many others are.

    •  Let me ask a question. Do you think it is (5+ / 0-)

worthwhile for Christians to reflect upon the anti-human anti-humane, anti-gay actions of certain other people who call themselves Christian?

And whose word am I to take for who is a true Christian -- yours?  Are the people who did this not just as much Christian by self identification as you are?

Do you think it is a good use of time to chastise people who are persecuted by people who call themselves Christian, or a better use of time going after people who (if you think this way) "misuse" Christianity to persecute gays?

      Why are you here?

Is it to natter and do public relations on behalf of Christianity as a brand name?

      •  Why am I here? (0+ / 0-)

to elect better democrats not that this has anything to do with that.

You're all up in arms about me asking for a small concession.  I only asked for more specificity.

I don't know why that bothers people so much as they expect the same treatment for preferred groups.

hypocracy is what is going on here.

not a League of Extraordinary Gentleman and Ladies.  Its mission is not to run around finding offense at everyone who has issues with certain Christians doing bad things.

This is like getting offended because one is employed by the Federal Reserve and one criticizes the Federal Reserve.

Question 1: Is it an accurate criticism?  You can say these people are no true Christians -- but as others pointed out this is the "no true scotsman" fallacy.

Question 2: Is there a specific intent to tar all people or a certain creed with the same brush?

If your mission in life is to get offended because some people are attacked by Christians and observe that Christianity is used as a tool in the attack, I really don't care at all about your observations.  To thine own self be true -- and whatever your predilictions or questions of hurt, it is not mine to go on a tirade against all Christians -- nor do I think it's anybody else's in this diary and this context.  If you want to read hurt into something and make the oppressors the victims (so to speak), that is not my cross to bear.

And this site is more than about electing Democrats.  If that's all it were about -- what's it for?  What do Democrats stand for?
