Been skimming comments on "Gillibrand" from back in January 2009 (when she was being considered) -- there were a lot of folks who had her as "Blue Dog", "not a progressive", accusations of her supporters being "astroturfers", and the like. Of course, there was a considerable push to have Caroline Kennedy appointed to the seat despite no legislative experience.

Granted, she was a Democrat representing a fairly conservative district -- once her constituency grew to cover the entire state, she's done a good job of reflecting that constituency.

it's strange but some of the candidates I have worked for via  moveon and Act Blue  billed themselves as progressives and were major disappointments, others who I was reluctant to call for turned out to be good solid Democrat's. It's hard when you do not live in a region to really know both the constituency or the pol, as the political hype surrounds the good and the bad.

were strange -- the NYC media hated her as an "upstate hick" and showed it almost every day, and many here were affected by that.

Those of us who knew her from NY-20 tried to get out the truth, that she was more moderate when representing a very Republican district and that she would be more progressive when representing the entire state.

Because she is an excellent representative of her constituents.
