Aside from serving on a few committees, she has spent her adult life doing little or nothing, professionally.

and certainly has nothing in her background to suggest she's ever been hungry for anything.

Experiencing a little hunger is a good thing, imo.

lot of work behind the scenes. I don't recall the details but her friends related quite a few things.

And she did work at campaigning visiting a number of towns upstate but she was dreadful at public speaking — I am sure she dreaded it.

I think she would have grown into the job. That is not to take away a bit from Gilibrand's accomplishments and personality.

And for all the work Caroline did for Obama during the primaries, he lost in every state where she campaigned for him.  Caroline's friends who spoke to the press described her activities as a clubwoman.  As a professional lawyer, which is what she was billed as during her so-called campaign, she did zip.  She was so not a lawyer that she allowed her license to lapse.  And she was so unengaged with politics  that she did not even vote regularly.
