    I am sure she's branch out. The time to put forth really tough, challenging issues and bills is not when you are brand new and an appointee. Build some respect and goodwill first (and impress your colleagues by taking 63% of the vote.)

    That's known as being politically savvy.  I saw a poster just last week say they thought DADT advocacy was going to be her "political suicide." Which is political stupidity. On DADT, she saw an opening wide as the Grand Canyon, an overdue issue and not a single Senator willing to take it up and tag-team with Murphy from the House. (And it wasn't selected for her, she jumped party leadership's gun, it appears.)

    I think she's made smart choices. Sure crib safety is easy, but she's a young mother with kids, it's a constituency group that can, will and does relate to her. She's built strong ties to mommy blogs too.

    Yes, it's kind of obvious.  But as someone observed upthread, savvy, canny and effective is unfortunately, rarer than ever these days.
