good for this guy, but this is typical media bullshit.  Create some feel good story and fall all over themselves to cover it,  yet then at the same time fail to cover and tell stories such as the bullshit meme that SS is an entitlement and is going broke.  Failing to cover the real story will create 100,000s of Teds.  But instead of covering the real stories, we get this america idol lets help a one guy story.

    Typical american bullshit.

bullshit that anyone can have the same experience so why should we as a society do anything. i still remember when homelessness was a rather rare sight and they don't talk about how and why that changed also. it's like that ridiculous show undercover boss, do they make any systemic changes to their low wage no benefit jobs no they give out  few thousand bucks and seem like heroes.

To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men~~ Abraham Lincoln

    •  Thank you for pointing this out (0+ / 0-)

I wish Ted all the luck in the world - he is going to need luck to navigate his job offers and turn them into a success that lasts beyond his 15 minutes of fame.  I certainly don't think he is "set for life" as Doral put it.  I hope he gets support.

Why does this story get so much attention?  Part of it is the compelling video (and audio) that got played and spread around and replayed on TV.  Part of it is the story of plucking someone out of obscurity to international fame via undiscovered talent - it's Susan Boyle all over again.

What I don't see is this story being a vehicle to discuss homelessness, solutions to homelessness, ways of organizing, etc.  It is a nice human interest story, but what bearing it has on helping other homeless individuals is beyond me.
