Maybe all of this was posted in the heat of emotion after the shooting yesterday but here are the facts:

BoyBlue did not shoot his congresswoman.

BoyBlue did not threaten his congresswoman.

BoyBlue was critical of his congresswoman but he never recommended "second amendment remedies" to deal with it, reading his past comments it is clear that he is a peaceful activist and does not endorse violence.

BoyBlue may have used an unfortunate phrase to describe his frustration with his congresswoman but had yesterday's shooting not happened, no one would have had a problem with the use of that phrase.  If you think this is not correct, find me the comment from someone that criticized his use of that phrase with a timestamp prior to the shooting.  It is an old saying and merely a rhetorical device, it was clearly not meant literally (any more than someone using the phrase "eat sh** and die" actually wants the person they are addressing to eat sh** and die, or any other similar rhetorical device) and I am more shocked that so many here somehow seem to think that it was (i.e. "chilling") than I am shocked that the shooting happened.

In the past few decades, right wingers - and only right-wingers - have been agitating for and encouraging political violence against "liberals," especially after the election of our first black president.  This kind of political violence is inevitable in the political climate that the right-wingers have fomented, it isn't a matter of if, it is only a matter of when, which is why yesterday's shooting doesn't surprise me at all as much as it saddens (and depresses) me.  And it will continue so long as leaders on the right stay silent and refuse to condemn the right's over-the-top, violence-inciting rhetoric, which is why it angers me that so many of you are coming after BoyBlue.  BoyBlue's diary is a red herring and those here that are critical of it and him are enabling the right to use it as such and are enabling a false equivalence.

Any of us, including all of you and especially those of you that have been the most critical of BoyBlue's use of "dead to me," could have just as easily used a similar albeit regrettable turn of phrase about a politician and I would wager that many of you, over the years, have done just that.  Those of you that continue to criticize BoyBlue should first take care of the logs in your own eyes.

Lecturing BoyBlue about using better language may sure make some folks feel superior but their lectures are not necessary.  BoyBlue is now acutely aware of the importance of the use of language and I am quite confident that the lesson has been learned in spades.  Don't add insult to injury by continuing to criticize.

It was, I am sure, a regrettable choice of words but it was most certainly not a deathwish and Kossacks really need to stop perpetuating that right-wing smear about one of our own.

If some nutjob decided to shoot some politician today that any of you have been especially critical of, could any of your comments or diaries be misconstrued as an incitement to violence, even by the narrowest of wing nut interpretations?

This is a wake up call for all of us to realize how important the use of language is, not just BoyBlue.  BoyBlue is being smeared on the pages of right-wing sites and I for one and not willing to throw BoyBlue under the bus in some kind of display of "we're not like them" as so many here seem to be.  That is more shameful to me than BoyBlue's poor choice of words.

I don't know BoyBlue and I've never read his diaries or comments until today.  But I will vigorously defend him from the hordes of both righties and lefties that are intent to support the false equivalence of right vs. left rhetoric.

Not a single issue voter, but if I was, gay rights would be it. I just want Democrats to be tough. And I wish Obama were tougher. That's all. I'm a proud gay!
