If in your system employers would contribute nothing to funding healhcare who would pick up all of the healthcare costs they now cover? Employers, through that portion of group health insurance that is now paid for by corporations, provide a majority of funds for healthcare. How would healthcare be financed in a system where employers paid nothing?

Use the universal solution to all problems:

      Tax the top 1%

( But we did that 73 times already)
( No problem, there is always more there)

for the uninsured and the underinsured. The fact is that the government is always able to find a way to pay for something if they want it badly enough. See Department of Defense. See tax cuts for the wealthy.

If Congress wanted to do it, it would get done.

You asked why the business community isn't for single payer, given its clear benefit (in your words) that it would reduce their overhead costs dramatically. The answer is easy, they think they will pay more. Capturing support from the business community is easy. Show them legislation where their employees receive better care and the corporation pays less. They will line up quick for that plan.
