6+ people, including a 9 year old, is much more than a disgrace in my book. how do you know he's mentally ill, by the way?

      •  i don't think mental illness (0+ / 0-)

is usually diagnosed online through myspace. in the end -- you may be right, but it doesn't remotely make "disgrace" inapplicable to his actions.

      •  He may have been high (0+ / 0-)

People have described him as a pot user, and kind of a loner, but I'm wondering about his post on youtube that he was in MEPS (Military Enlistment Processing) -- wonder if we'll get a statement from his recruiter at some point.

        •  Disgrace is not a suitable adjective here. (0+ / 0-)

Horrific, Terrible beyond words, a tragedy...yes...but the disgrace is McCain's.  Did he ever speak out against Palin's crosshairs on Rep Gifford?  Did he ever speak out against all the rhetoric by public personages urging violence?

    •  No...the disgrace is McCain's (0+ / 0-)

This act by the gunman was horrific, terrible beyond words, a tragedy...but not a disgrace.   The disgrace is McCain's for not speaking up against sarah palin's crosshairs on Rep Gifford and other such crap that has occured by public personages.

    •  We don't know, but there's reason to suspect it. (0+ / 0-)

If he's mentally ill, it means just that. It means his brain is dysfunctional just as a heart or liver can be dysfunctional.
It might not give us the emotional release that blood revenge will, but it will bring us closer to a solution to these problems if we can at least admit it if it's a fact.
My mother's suffered from mental illness, she's never harmed anyone, in fact, it's the opposite situation.
She's healthy now, but she's been through hell.
I don't cotton to primitive attitudes about mental illness.

      •  like i said, (0+ / 0-)

mental illness isn't diagnosed from the comfort of a keyboard, a few thousand miles away.

my mom is schizophrenic. my aunt is severally mentally-handicapped. i don't need the lectures.

i can say his actions are a disgrace, as anyone can. if he's mentally ill, his actions are still a disgrace. that there is a mental cause doesn't excuse it.

        •  If he's mentally ill, it's a disgrace he wasn't (0+ / 0-)

diagnosed. It's a disgrace he had a gun.
From the standpoint of the law, it does excuse it. He's not responsible.
