  •  As long as it's not.... (0+ / 0-)

Saying or writing "right-wing extremists should stop calling for assassinations" is not  advocating censorship or a restriction of free speech. Advocating that such people be thrown in jail would be.

If you say something that I think is vile and I say so, and add that you shouldn't say that, that's an opinion being expressed. Which involves my right to free speech.

If I literally try to shut you up, and call on others to shut you up, by any means other than words either spoken or printed, then that's a restriction of free speech.

Restriction of free speech isn't writing a letter telling an editorial writer he's a stupid jackass to write the things he does and he should never write such things again; it's breaking up his printing press...or having him thrown in jail.

Don't restrict people's right to free speech in the name of protecting free speech.

Freedom has two enemies: Those who want to control everyone around them...and those who feel no need to control themselves.

    •  Yeah, right. (0+ / 0-)

The whole "right-wing extremist" meme is setup by people who would dearly love to further restrict a particular group of people.

Fortunately, our Constitution prevents that -- although the presence of hate speech laws makes me wonder.

    •  Legislation is already underfoot - (0+ / 0-)

      http://ubuntuforums.org/...

a federal crime to use language or symbols that could be perceived as threatening or inciting violence against a federal official or member of Congress.

"could be perceived as threatening or or inciting violence"

Hard for me to imagine very much that doesn't fit that description.
