  •  This is what Sharron Angle called for (7+ / 0-)

... when she said "second amendment remedies."  This is what Michele Bachmann called for when she said she wanted her supporters to be "armed and dangerous" against that "enemy territory" in Washington.  There's many more examples beyond these - e.g. Boehner about Dreihaus and many more.

Regardless whether or not this shooter thought he was responding to those specific calls, this is exactly what they (and others) have been calling for.  I sent Bachmann an email (no easy task as you have to provide a street address and a zip+4 within the district to do so) saying the same thing.  Whether or not this guy heeded her, this was what she was calling for - and it was time for it to stop.  Now.  (Time to retract the past calls, too, but I ain't gonna hold my breath on that one.)

    •  The Boner/Dreihaus case is especially telling (2+ / 0-)

Boner apparently had no idea that his comments could cause any real harm to Dreihaus, which is a major part of the problem. Too many politicians like Boner seem completely oblivious to the fact that their rhetoric could have dire consequences.

    •  fools errand (0+ / 0-)

It's a fools errand to draw a line between what may very well be completely disconnected events.  And it just gives the other side permission to do the same.  And when they do, and we complain, we're hypocrites.

      Don't go there.

They say they want it to happen.  Short of shooting me down, too, you aren't going to stop me from "going there."

        •  Why did the shooter do it? (0+ / 0-)

Do you know?  Do you claim to know?  Because you're saying "he did it because they called for it."  And you can't possibly know that.  And that may, in fact, be quite false.

And asserting truths for which you have no evidence doesn't make you smart.  So go there all you want.  I just wish you weren't dragging the rest of us on the left with you.

Not by you, not by anyone.  Not short of you shooting me down to shut me up.  I'm not one do those back-and-forths that run over to the right margin, but I'll make an excpetion this time.  If I have to respond to you fifty times, I will do it.

            I. Will. Not. Be. Silenced.  Not on this.

FWIW:  You don't read so good, sammyspade.  You don't display solid reasoning abilities (perhaps you have them, but you don't show them.)  What I said that whether or not this guy was responding to these kinds of threats, this is what those people are calling for.

When Michele Bachmann says she wants her supporters to be "armed and dangerous", this is the kind of thing she means.

When Sarah Palin puts crosshairs on people, this is what she's conjuring up.

Sharron Angle talks about "second amendment remedies."  She wouldn't answer any questions about what she meant by that phrase, but it's pretty clear this is what she's talking about.

Jesse Kelly throws campaign events at a target range, promotes it saying they want to "eliminate" Giffords, together with abundant pictures of him and his supporters (wearing campaign t-shirts.)

Rep. Grijalva gets bullets shot in his office.

Wingers publish an address:  They say it's Rep. Tom Periello, but it's really his brother.  A gas line gets cut.

After Boehner suggested that by voting for Obamacare, Driehaus "may be a dead man" and "can't go home to the west side of Cincinnati" because "the Catholics will run him out of town," Driehaus began receiving death threats

No matter where this shooter drew his inspiration from, this is what these people - and many others are calling for.

I don't know if you're an idiot or not.  But you're definitely acting like one.

              Got that the first time.

Let me ask you a simple question.  If none of those people had made any of those statements, would this shooting still (most likely) would have happened?

              •  Irrelevant hypothetical. (0+ / 0-)

Since those people did say those things.

                •  rob banks! it's fun! (0+ / 0-)

I'm now responsible for every bank robbery.  Even bank robbers who never read my words or even know I exist.

I'm pretty sure that Grand Theft Auto is actually to blame for the shooting.

                  •  It is my belief... (0+ / 0-)

... that you are simply trying to see how big a jerk you can be about this.

Apparently, you don't see a problem with this climate of "armed and dangerous" and "RELOAD!!" and "second amendment remedies."  This is the kind of world you want?  Really?
