    when most people here use it as shorthand for public relations propaganda, which is a very real fact of life.  Read up on the influence of Edward Bernays.

    I have never seen anyone on DKos use the term literally to mean that the US government actually regulates the usage of language.  A simple search of instances of term is not a valid proxy for your implication.

    You say that "paranoia knows no political boundaries", which I suppose is true but (a la Bai) that does not differentiate between valid concerns (e.g. NSA wiretapping and Mission Accomplished staged photo ops) and crazy ones (Redemption Movemement Gold Standard theories).

    BTW I don't mean to detract from the overall message of your diary, which I think is a good one.
