  •  But our society has to be shocked (4+ / 0-)

now.  It has gotten worse and worse.  The one with the most outrageous statement gets the attention....witness Paylin.

I use tattoes as an example.  Everyone has a tattoo now.  So, what is the next generation of "rebels" going to have to do to shock?

The words that are used are used for a reason....they break through the noise and rile people up.  As we have learned, riling people up is good business, in terms of commerce and political fundraising.

So, we are kind of stuck.  All the pleas to tone-down the rhetoric will fall on deaf ears, because no one hears the calm and rational person.  They notice the spittle-flinging, red-faced person instead.  It is how our society works now and I don't even know if we can change it.

Those are also designed to shock, as there are also (as with tatoos) personal reasons for those personal body arts.

    •  The future is body mods (0+ / 0-)

(warning graphic images appear when you Google that).  People are already modifying themselves with implants and the future will bring only more advanced technologies.

Jim Mielke's wireless blood-fueled display is a true merging of technology and body art. At the recent Greener Gadgets Design Competition, the engineer demonstrated a subcutaneously implanted touch-screen that operates as a cell phone display, with the potential for 3G video calls that are visible just underneath the skin.

bleak.  Everyone will be so fucking fat from not needing to move at ALL that the human race will die right out LOL!

        •  Not everyone. Those with money will download into (0+ / 0-)

new cybernetic bodies. :)  The problem is that the future will continue our trend of more technology leading to even bigger splits between the haves and have-nots.  It is essential to lay the foundations of the future today but the conservatives have hijacked the country and continue to argue the past. They keep fracturing the country along the same old lines so that the wealthy may squeeze a few more bucks out of everyone else.
