Your mistake is conflating the crazy base to the entire Repug party.  It's not.

Winning the crazies is necessary to winning the primary, but not sufficient.  If Romney wants to win the primary, he has to win the crazies.  If Huckabee wants to win the primary, he has to win the crazies.  And if Palin wants to win the primary, she has to win the crazies.

But, in addition to winning the crazies, you also have to win the non-crazies too.  That's why Huckabee and Romney consistently outpoll Palin time after time after time.  They win the noncrazies.  Palin doesn't.

And Huckabee will never win the $ people. If Crazy wins the primary as you even state then she at least has a very good chance of winning, if she throws her hat in the ring. She has at least as much of a chance at winning the primary as either of them for sure. She starts with 25% of the repub base to begin with nobody else has that head start. To say she has no chance at winning the primary is just not being honest. Of course she's got a chance and I would argue a very good one and that's what scares the crap out of us.

Also you are not taking into account the effect of any of the other candidates going after her hard will do to their own chances. They go hard after he like they will have to do and the crazy will abandon them.

But he gets the non-crazies, so he can win the primary anyway. In particular, Romney can win the big-money folks. Palin can't.

You can wave your arms all you want--the simple reality is that Palin loses in poll after poll after poll after poll after poll.  Her support within the Repug Party is simply nowhere near as big as we all want to scare ourselves that it is.

She simply cannot win the primary. She doesn't have the strength.

The crazies likely will split between Huckabee and Palin, and Romney will get the rest.  He wins.

        •  poll after poll after poll??? (0+ / 0-)

not true, she only recently started dropping in the polls like a month ago or so (since the 2nd book) from what I've seen in the trends and she still gets 25% of the dead enders.  I can't believe I'm arguing with you on this because I hope you are right and that she has no chance at the primary.  I suspect you are not though, and you didn't address the effect on the other candidates in bringing her down.  If/when they do bring her down it will hurt them with the crazies without a doubt. I will bet you right now that Romney won't win a primary beyond NH and he may only win that one because of his NewEngland ties. Again I hope you are right, but doubt that you are.
