  •  It is hard to tell a bad guy shooter (0+ / 0-)

from a good guy shooter when all hell is breaking loose.
I spoke with a peace officer pal of mine today and he said the good guy would likely have been mistaken for a bad guy shooter.
He said the best way to identify who the good guy shooters are is to see their highly visible police badges.
My pal says he now thinks about his side arm all. the. time.

Democrats are on the right side of history every time.

all the typical RW gun nut arguments about how much better it would be if everyone was armed during these kinds of incidents is so utterly ridiculous. Actually pulling and using your own gun as a bystander during a shooting is probably the most ill-advised thing I can think of. First of all, in the heat of the moment, it would be nearly impossible to react intelligently and use your weapon in a prudent manner, even assuming you had the proper training to do so. Even law enforcement officials who have had extensive training often make critical mistakes in such situations. The chances are overwhelming that you would end up worsening the situation rather than saving anyone.

And the chances that any law enforcement responding to the situation are going to mistake you for one of the perpetrators are overwhelming. In such a situation as a mass shooting, there is a strong likelihood that police are going to react (and possibly overreact) very quickly to prevent any additional shooting, and that is going to entail immediately disabling anyone they see wielding a weapon. If you are one of the people holding a gun, even if you are trying to be a hero, you had better hope the police aren't in a position where they have to be shooting to kill.
