  •  you are right, (7+ / 0-)

Obama appeared appropriately somber even with the crazy cheering. (Don't people in AZ know how to act?) You comment is really great, I agree with all of it.

By the way, your name reminded me I need to reread one of the greatest books ever written. I read it when I was 16 and was stunned at the ending. I remember walking around only thinking of the end of the book for weeks. It made such an impact on me I read all of his other books and at that time I only read science fiction.
    Thanks for your comment.

I, too, started reading Hesse at age 16, and was blown away. I read all of his books, as did my small circle of friends. We were practically obsessed with him. I would like to reread all of his works again, but I wonder if his writings, particularly Demian, which I read first, will hold the same appeal they did for a naive and impressionable 16-year old. I started to reread Siddhartha, since it was the only novel of his I still had in my possession. But I quickly lost interest and never finished it.

Narcissus and Goldmund.  I couldn't start another book for days because I'd just hold it in front of me while thinking about Hesse's masterpiece.

I must read The Glass Bead Game, it's the only one by him I haven't read.
