is such a beaten resolve among liberals that the gun issue is untouchable. Even your "modest" proposals would outrage the NRA; they are literally out of control.

    •  It's not really amazing though (0+ / 0-)

The composition of the Senate just ruins us.  Roughly 35 states are gun-lover states.  Democrats can only get elected in those states by loving guns.  That's automatically 70 gun-lover Senators, regardless of the overall party composition.  We can't get anything passed.

Disappointing.  Personally I'd like to see guns completely banned.  We can have hunting clubs that store guns out in the forest or whatever so people can still hunt.

        That's rather what I thought.

That's the attitude that loses elections. There's no future in opposing a basic Constitutional right that is exercised by millions of citizens.

Regulation efforts that consist of keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally unstable have been proven more effective than blanket bans, which affect only those willing to abide by them. We need to enforce the laws we have before we make too many new ones.

        •  It's only been a constitutional right (0+ / 0-)

for 2 years.  And even then, by a 5-4 vote (all 5 were right-wing gasbags).  And that 5-4 vote overturned all prior case law that said there was no individual constitutional right to own guns.

We need to enforce the laws we have before we make too many new ones.

I know you said you're not in the NRA, but that was the ultimate NRA talking point.

The laws we have are enforced.  Why do you think the states with gun control have the lowest firearm death rates, while the states with the least gun control have the highest firearm death rates (DC clearly an exception in this list given 98.2 percent of its guns come from outside the District).

If the laws aren't enforced, why aren't gun-lovers in DC buying their guns in DC?

If the laws aren't enforced, why is it virtually impossible to get a concealed weapons permit in New Jersey, Illinois, Maryland, and Hawaii?

but I can't leave this to misinform people.

Your link does not support your contention. If you look at divorce rates, it makes the same trend line. Thus, by your logic I can validly ask, "Why do the states with the least gun control [an assumption you make] have the highest divorce rates?"

Lax gun control laws must cause divorce. And dozens of other correlations that are irrelevant.

You have a long way to go to prove that the states with the highest gun homicide rates are that way because of the laws and not the culture. Its the culture that causes both.

          •  Nope, its been a Constitutional right forever (0+ / 0-)

You see thats how Supreme Court decisions work as ruled by the Supreme Court itself.  If something they rule as Constitutional then it always has been, if something they rule is unConstitutional then it always has been.  Otherwise they would be creating law by having its effect changed.

You really don't understand America at all. California and New York are not the only states. When you go to the West, it is a very different life and a very different society, not better or worse, just not East Coast-West Coast detached.
