    An important point about competition is that it works best (for the society) if there is a level playing field.

    So for instance an economy would be better off if all members (including employees) had access to similar health care. In that way companies are not at a disadvantage in attracting or keeping employees. The economy is also more innovative because people can quit jobs and start new companies/jobs without fear of losing health coverage.

    On a similar basis there is a good argument for funding the education of all students at similar levels (with some basic adjustments). Just because someone is born in a poor area should not mean that there education is funded at a lower level. Ultimately you would like those entering the workforce to all have had similar opportunities. or
