  •  This is a sad time for you and made even (17+ / 0-)

sadder by seeing what is very, very wrong so close to home.

My mother died three years ago at age 93. She and my Dad were Eisenhower Republicans with a strong sense of responsibility to the community. My mother told me the story of when her Dad passed away at age fifty-three, only a few months before I was born, which was in 1946.

My Grandfather was a staunch Republican, a one term WV State Senator, deacon of the Methodist Church and a local businessman. He and his brother owned the only hardware store in fifty miles.  When he died, my Grandmother began to organize his papers and store records. She found a small journal which contained names, dollar amounts and dates, some going back over a decade.

Within days of my Grandfather dying, people she often did not know began to call on my Grandmother and the mystery of the journal was solved.

My Grandfather had extended credit to those in the journal and he had no expectation of being re-paid nor did he ever call in a debt.

The people who came calling were repaying what they believed was owed to a man who practiced his faith every day.

May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house. George Carlin
