    Social Security is not a welfare program, and you are not eligible to collect from it if you didn't contribute to it.

    There are many entitlement programs and they are also good and necessary programs. Yes, the highly-paid should pay a great deal more in income taxes and those payments should be redistributed to lower-earners. But that is not what Social Security is about.

    Remove the cap and thousands of people will be drawing - based on their contributions - $30k and $50k and maybe $100k a month. Who are these people? They are the people who expect to live the longest.

    The cap protects you and me.

    And that is why there is a cap.
