  •  not moving to the right (5+ / 0-)

is that suppose to be some kind of a joke?  Are they really going to be surprised that no young people show up to vote after what they have done with health care, fisa, naked scanners, and banker bailouts?

    •  I for one hope Obama endorses (0+ / 0-)

Capitalism.  You know, capitalizing properly. :)

    •  His approval rating has only gone up (4+ / 0-)

the last couple of months, when he has supposedly gone to the right.

    •  a good question. will Obama make (2+ / 0-)

any move to the 'left'? Why is there no movement to the Left, is it because Obama feels the 'left' has nowhere else to go and they will vote for him anyway?

      •  Except, I'm betting his approval rating (1+ / 0-)

among liberals has mostly gone up or stayed the same over the last couple of months as his overall approval has gone up. And it depends on what you mean by  "moving to the left?" Was signing DADT repeal a move to the left?

        •  If he supports marriage equality I'll believe it (0+ / 0-)

was more than just a very safe political move,... and that it isn't because it gives the Military more soldiers.

There is also the Indefinite Detention and the Drone attacks , bombing people in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen (as far as common knowledge goes)

"And while 2,043 is a lot of people to kill in the past five years, over 75% of them were actually killed in the past two years since President Obama took office. 2009 saw over 700 people killed in the CIA drone strikes, and the report shows 929 more killed in 2010."

Obama's refusal to even investigate criminal acts of the highest order, torture, and his State Secrets claims that have blocked any recourse in Civil Courts for the victims of torture. This includes what Wikileaks revealed, that Obama's administration worked to stop any prosecution, Criminal or Civil, of rendition and torture in Spain and Germany. We still do 'rendition' BTW, that way Obama can say 'we don't torture', no we just need people in Cairo to interrogate them.

I shouldn't have to list more reasons why I think there is no 'left' in Obama and I have had that feeling reinforced with almost every personal appointment he has made. From Summers, Geithner, Gates, Bernanke, Daley, and the other assorted Wall Steet alumini, Obama has moved to the 'right', very hard.
It is also reinforced by his creation of the Cat Food Commission, using his choices to put it in the hands of the most outspoken opponents of Social Security. Non elected ardent opponents with a long history of attacks against SS, no electorate to answer to and with a mandate to study how to reduce the deficit, and allows them to put SS on the table when it is well known it adds not a cent to the 'deficit.'

I see no upcoming real'left' turns from President Obama and as great as DADT is...we just caught up with a good part of the rest of the world, on that at least.

          •  Obama believes, in general... (0+ / 0-)

the general "War on Terror" theory.  He always has.  Most of your complaints are part of that.  In some, he has no choice.  (For example, his choices with Gitmo right now are status quo for the prisoners there or let them loose into the continetial United States.  Obviously, the second choice is the correct one; but equally obviously it's political suicide.)

As for the left having no other choice, Ralph Nader proved that to be true in 2000.  There probably will not be a significant lefty third party Presidential run during my lifetime due to his run.  Nader's run is a reason that we have Gitmo, we have the Iraq war, we have all the messes we have now.  (Not the reason, but a reason.  Had Nader not ran, Gore would have almost certainly won Florida and New Hampshire, either of which would have resulted in a Gore win.)

      •  Of course (0+ / 0-)

Moving to the center in preporation for a general election is (usually) a good strategy.

Hate to break it to you, but 80% or more of voters are to the right of the average Daily Kos user.

      •  There are lots of places I can go on election day (0+ / 0-)

I won't bore you with a list.  Use your imagination, and it doesn't include the voting booth.

        •  I'll vote, but nothing more, & not for Obama (0+ / 0-)

there is more to voting than just for the top of the ticket. For example my Senator has put a Bill forth to undo Obama's latest gift to industry on the net neutrality issue. We need people elected to push back on Obama.
