  •  That's just idiotic. (0+ / 0-)

Egypt has been a dictatorship for 30 years. So to say that we are anything like Egypt is just ridiculous. We are a democracy; a revolution against a democracy is about installing something that is NOT a democracy. For you it would be to install some sort of left-leaning dictatorship. Fuck that, I'll take my democracy, warts and all.

    •  Except for stating... (0+ / 0-)

that some of the same tactics have been utilized in the Egyptian protests have also been used here at home (i.e. rubber bullets, tear gas, beatings), I don't believe I suggested anywhere that we are anything like Egypt.

I questioned the ability of our own government to shut down communications given the right set of circumstances, and answered my own musing by stating it could happen here (and not that it would happen).

Am I worried about our own loss of civil liberties via actions of our own government?  Absolutely.

My pondering seems to have infuriated you and one other, and again, all I can say is "oh well".

      •  So what the technically it (0+ / 0-)

could happen? Technically, the US government could explode hydrogen bombs over our cities. The US government could kill all of us with bioweapons. So those topics are worthwhile discussing, because they are technically possible?
