    the bananas we eat are the cavendish variety.  Yummy, but prone to disease.  If a divine being designed bananas for our enjoyment, they wouldn't be so weak and vulnerable.  In contrast, seeing bananas as a product of evolution and selective breeding reveals the strengths and weaknesses of how a species can exist at any given time, and how "fitness" is not constant.  A few genetic mutations will do much better to preserve bananas from extinction than prayer.
