    I think a part of what the OP missed is that the United States is one of, if not the richest country in existence. Although we may score extremely highly on the income inequality charts, a lot of our poor still have an extremely basic standard of living. Just as the old Roman empire provided their poor with bread and circuses, our empire provides the poor with a constant media bombardment of entertainment, a veritable blizzard of non issues to consume our attention.

    This combined with the struggle the average citizen has had to take to maintain a roof over their heads, has explained America's lack of interest in taking to the streets.
