  •  Why would they lose? (none)
We haven't even managed to win in Iraq yet.

A lot of right wingers like to believe our military is omnipotent, but the truth is it's an anemic piece of shit.  This is not an attempt to insult people in the military, many of whom are certainly very tough and competent.  But the bottomline is our military as a whole is too small to actually take over any other countries.

It would be great for defese, but that's it.  We can't even effectively occupy Iraq, and now we're supposed to believe we could do it in Iran (larger, more powerful country)?  We can keep dreaming...  I think an attempted invasion of Iran will be an outright failure.  We simply will not be able to hold the ground.

In Britain they admit to having royalty. In the United States we pretend we don't have any, and then we elect them president.

    •  Good point... (4.00)
But you are assuming that chaos is a bad outcome for strategists like Wolfowitz and Perl.  Thye've come out of this with domestic support wrapped up, huge contracts for their buddies and a chance to test out their genius on real live people who bleed.

The Baath leadership and the 100K who are dead have certainly lost haven't they? The Top tier of Iranian society have everything to lose.

    •  The US military is very good at a few things (none)
like force projection, air/sea warfare, covert operations.

When you have talents like that, you can smack around pretty much any other military in the world. But what you can't do is conquer other countries. The Us military is made for quick, hard strikes, not grappling and holding someone down. It remains to be seen whether the Iran/Syria warplan calls for the former or the latter.

That Iran plans to beat us in a war by never confronting us directly, whether quick strikes or bogging us down and waiting us out. They're already effectively doing the latter (if you believe that Chalabi was part of an Iranian plot to get the US to go to war in Iraq), but they're doing it without risking any of their own people or risking their own resources.

Now, I'm not sure Iran will be able to avoid getting into a more direct fight with the US. (That's why I think the US is pushing for war, now, because they've realized that if things just keep progressing as is, Iran will win eventually). But I also suspect the Mullahs are planning all sorts of unconventional surprises on us that don't fit under any categories of modern warfare.
