    In the case of abortion, it's power over sexuality. But these are the same people who think we should go back to the good old days when women were deemed incompetent to vote, make financial decisions, own property independently, etc.

      although I'd say its about power over decision-making not power over sexuality.  The sexuality bit is just the tool for making the argument, not the real substance of what the power struggle is.

      And because this is an area that is so deeply resonant for people ("reproduction" and "life of the next generation") the fact that women would ultimately be seen as occupying a position of special privilege, knowledge and or understanding which is not open to men equally, that's why it has been marked as a "never surrender" category, it seems to me.

      Sex is part of the discourse, and it is part of the strategy for mobilizing support, but it is not, I believe, what lies at the root of the these anti-choicer's need to fight this battle.
