  •  Scapegoating.. (7+ / 0-)

AJE commenter said this is a tactic of scapegoating as many NDP members as possible -- to placate protesters (good luck!).

This, along with the investigations/travel ban/asset freezing of the 4 ex-ministers and Interior Min aides.

I don't know the backgrounds of the new leadership but the bottom line is that they will not change the protesters' demands. It's transparent.

I'm going to look them up though.

State TV said that Gamal Mubarak and the secretary-general of Egypt's ruling National Democratic Party (NDP), Safwat el-Sharif, have resigned in a gesture to protesters carrying out a 12-day-old wave of anti-government demonstrations.

Both were to be replaced by Hossam Badrawi - a member of the Upper Chamber of Egyptian Parliament, known as the Shura Council. He is also a senior NDP member and part of the party's board of governors.

Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq said Saturday that stability was returning to the country, appearing confident that a deal on future reforms can be reached with the multiple opposition movements to defuse protests without the 82-year-old Mubarak necessarily leaving power immediately.
