to South Carolina in order to avoid union benefits, pay scales and sane but costly environmental regulations.

South Carolina also gave away over a billion in tax and other incentives to build another assembly line here.

Starting wages for assemblers in SC are a whopping $14 an hour.

i think i will avoid a plane built with parts made by by the lowest bidder and assembled by the least experienced and cheapest labor north of Mexico.

When those planes take to the air Boeings problems will just be starting.

Boeing's decision to shift final assembly to South Carolina in the face of the supplier disasters it has already endured should simply boggle the mind of any thinking person.  Boeing had to buy out two of its major suppliers for a plant producing the composite tail structure to be used in the B787.  What makes Boeing think that it can get its other workers there to be any better at producing high quality components than the folks who have struggled there.  What makes Boeing think that South Carolina is any better at offering intelligent skilled labor than its neighboring states who couldn't attract a new Toyota facility because the labor force is so damned bad.

Boeing expects to get parts which will just "snap together" as the press reports have said.  What happens when it gets composite parts which just "snap" when they're forced together.  Worse, what happens when those parts don't visibly snap but delaminate internally, just begging for the flexing caused by flight to cause failure in operation.  This is "penny wise, pound foolish" management at its worst, only hoping to be gone before the disaster occurs.
