  •  Indeed. (0+ / 0-)

But I think you are under-estimating the complexity, durability and reliability required for rail.

Pancakes, dougnuts and wedding cakes are all made from flour but the recipes are quite different.

        To the same effect,.

The only actual case is Kawasaki, but in fact, it was an aircraft company before it was a rail company and made this transition when forbidden by the terms of US marshally law during the post WWII occupation to acept a ban on manufacturing aircraft. The other case of Japanese company forced out of the aircraft business is Mitsubishi Heavey Industries which continues to manufacture aircraft parts.

Bombadier did not organically develop rail, it acquired several rail companies by corporate mergers. In other words, it's aircraft division did not develop rail systems they only bought them.

The remaindr named do not manufacture aircraft but only parts.

However, I do know of the one unique case of a company made a transition from furnature to railcars to boats to planes to motor scooters: Vespa. In fact, is you look at the original Vespa design, the monocoque frame and aero styling ae the obvious clues an areoplane designer was making motor scooters, again because they were forbidden my American occupiers from resuming aircraft prodution.

Again, I'm not at all surprised Boeing failes at rail, planes and trains are quite different.
