  •  Indeed. (11+ / 0-)

The damage has so totally been done. It doesn't matter if the DLC  is in chapter 11 and all its members penniless and eating gruel from tin cups. The ideology that the DLC spent so much effort trying to instill has become normative for Democrats in Congress. Policies that still seemed halfway reactionary to Democrats in the 1990s are wholly assimilated as blandly centrist in the 2000s.

It scarcely matters whether some rump institution called the "DLC" has gone into receivership. Any grave-dancing is premature in the extreme.

They'll never be penniless.  Corporations always care for those who have worked for their benefit.  Look for the DLC leadership to get well-paying jobs on corporate boards, etc.  Unfortunately, We, The People, can't afford those same perks for those who support our interests.

      •  Heh... I'm not especially concerned, to be sure. (1+ / 0-)

I have no doubt that other moneybags will always be there to keep erstwhile DLCers in Armani suits. I'm just saying that we shouldn't think DLCs misfortunes are any indication that they have failed in their larger project of pushing the Democrats to the right.

      •  If Bruce Reed is working for VP Biden, (4+ / 0-)

the DLC isn't shut - they've just moved offices.

The "brand" is no longer needed/useful - doesn't mean that the philosophy isn't alive and well - in fact it could be more active than it has been in years.

That was the point I made.  They're everywhere in the Obama administration.
