  •  Smart move by Hatch. Tea Party is ratcheting up (0+ / 0-)

retoric againest Richad Lugar already and getting plenty of help from the local press to support them. If this is an example of what the 2012 primary race is going to be like, we need to invest in popcorn stock now.

    •  No, I think he'd be better off like Lugar (5+ / 0-)

He's not going to fool the TP crowd and he's going to alienate the non-crazy Republicans, the ones who have voted for him because he's a solid Mormon gentleman.  Bennett lost because at the time nobody understood what was going on; Hatch now knows, but he's taking the wrong lesson from it.

2 million in his war chest and plans to fight them. but I don't think he had planned to use it in the Primary.  In the General election, at this last election he carried 70+% of the total vote. I would identify Lugar and the last sane Republican left in the Senate.

        •  If I lived in IN *I* Might vote for Dick Lugar.. (3+ / 0-)

          And that's scary,

He may be the last sane one in the Senate, and he is Definitely the last sane one in Indiana.

supported him since he was mayor.  If Tea Bagger were somehow able to defeat him in Indiana's closed Primary, that seat would probably go Democratic.
