    Our state legislature was overwhelmingly GOP, but now they are super sized.

    We are dependent on the sales tax in this state.  But if you look at the code, the stuff rich people use and buy get exempted or cut, but the stuff the regular people need get gouged.  The Sentinel did an article on it a few years back, I'll see if I can find it.

      But that'll never happen due to the history of not having one, and the eternal right wing control of the legislature.

      •  There was a movement a few years back (0+ / 0-)

        for fair taxes in this state.  What it would do is require a super majority in both houses if a sales tax was to be EXEMPT.  Obviously, it got very little traction because the opposition argued that supporters wanted more taxes... but the truth is that the ONLY taxes the legislature exempts are those that benefit special interests or the super wealthy.  They will cut every necessary service before they fucking ask the obscenely wealthy to give up their subsidies.
