    We already subsidize people's health insurance; we just do it in a sufficiently opaque way that most people don't realize it.  Also, the system of subsidies ensures that the subsidies go preferentially to certain classes of people (the employed, for starters, and particularly those with larger employers).  As someone whose employer doesn't offer an employee health plan, I can't get tax exempt health insurance.  I still pay, through my taxes, for the millions of Americans who do.

    The fact that Republicans argued that allowing for a few basic things like insurance exchanges so that I could get health insurance that might be in some way subsidized constitutes a government takeover . . . it's just mind-boggling.
