  •  Deeds wasn't the safe choice (1+ / 0-)

Deeds was the leftovers after Moran and McAuliffe killed each other off.  He never really campaigned in the primary and never really tried in the general.  He won the primary by default, not because he was some sort of "safe" candidate.

Base will also probably turn out for Kaine.  He was a popular governor (not quite as popular as Warner, but he wasn't exactly unpopular, leaving with 60% approval)

Why don't you just stop pretending and support a primary challenger already?

    •  Disagree. (0+ / 0-)

Three was a fear that McAulffe was too much a Clinton insider, and Moran was too closely tied to NoVA. Few thought either could run well outside NoVA. Deeds's big attraction was that he could run strong state wide. The WaPo endorsement sealed the deal for him. He was definitely the safe choice.

No elected official should enjoy more than the worst medical plan available to their constituents. In the US, that would be no plan.

"if my guy isn't going to win, then I'm going to vote for him" guy more than anything.

Again, Deeds won because the other two candidates took each other out and he was the only one left, not by any quality of his own.
