  •  Ronald Reagan was a mean-spirited, (16+ / 0-)

jealous mouth-piece for a ruling elite that had to scramble for a new way to subordinate those segments of the population they didn't like.
Reagan was, as we're coming to realize about Palin, a good parrot, able to spout what he'd been told in response to prompts, like an automaton.  One suspects that's how the conversation about nuclear weapons with Gorbachov happened.  Reagan spent so much time chatting that he began to parrot his interlocutor's speech and, once the words of co-operation were out, they couldn't call them back.

Such people are not good actors.  Good actors are people who can temporarily assume the persona they are portraying.  Mimics simply repeat words, gestures, intonations and facial expressions without being affected by or intending any meaning.  Since they're like a puppet, they can't really be charged with deception.  Though their handlers certainly are.

The conservative mind relies mainly on what is plain to see.
