There is no net difference between Reagan's policies and Obama's. All the failed policies Reagan began, Obama continues.  US will be worse off at the end of Obama's term by every important measure, GDP growth, deficit/debt, military spending, oil imports, energy inefficiency, less Social Security and Medicare, higher health care costs.

If you dispute the following numbers, show what numbers you claim contradict them vs. the usual Obama fan "That's not true" lament when faced with hard numbers.

Reagan:Health care costs 12% to 15% of GDP
Obama: Health cares costs 17% to 20% of GDP

Reagan: Tax cuts for the rich.
    Obama:Tax cuts for the rich

    Reagan:Massive deficits/debt
    Obama: Massive deficits/debt

    Reagan:Debt/GDP 30% to 50%
    Obama:Debt/GDP 70% to 100%

Reagan:No regulation of banks, Wall St.
Obama:No regulation of banks, Wall St.

    Reagan:Massive jump in military spending
Obama:Massive jump in military spending ($1T)

    Reagan:US oil imports increase.
    Obama:US oil imports increase.

Reagan:Open US to more oil drilling.
Obama:Open US to more oil drilling.

    Reagan:Cut Social Security/Medicare
    Obama:Cut Social Security/Medicare

    •  Obama has a talent similar to Reagan's (5+ / 0-)

He's great at anesthetizing the country (although maybe a different political segment of it) while he pursues harmful policies. Reagan and Obama seem like nice guys. Unlike the Gingriches, Romneys and Palins, it tough to visualize them intentionally screwing the public.

President Obama's exposing Social Security to the budget-slashers and defunders (his deficit commission; his "temporary" FICA "tax holiday") has been especially galling--and instructive. On 1/20/09, who here could have imagined Obama would do that? Who could have imagined any Democratic president doing that? And the antiwar movement. Where'd that go? They're Obama's wars now not Bush's. We barely hear a word said against them.

Set aside fandom, personal admiration and reluctance to see one's own party in an unflattering light, and it's clear Presidents Reagan & Obama catered to America's rich at the expense of average citizens. As they did under Reagan, average Americans continue to lose ground under President Obama.

Sure, some here may not want to hear that. But so what? There's nothing to be gained--and a lot to be lost--by our continuing to ignore reality.

So far President Obama's big accomplishment is proving that support for either party is neither Hope-inducing nor Change-producing.

      •  He's also a fan of Reagan's poison pill strategy (0+ / 0-)

of using "divide and conquer" to control the Democratic Party.  That's the purpose behind "Third Way" politics.

It appeals to Democrats who have an inferiority complex, who don't have the courage or political will to embrace their inner Republican.

Proud member of the Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party.
