  •  Actually, the Egyptian military is surely looking (9+ / 0-)

to Turkey, where the military has finally be brought to heel by Erdogan and forced to submit to duly elected civilian authority.

No time to go into all of it, but the once ever present threat of coup in Turkey has largely ended.

We need to find the middle ground between Heliocentric and Geocentric extremists.

    •  Stilll, look at their choices! (5+ / 0-)
      1.  On the international stage, crush the protesters with brutal strength.
      1.  Behind the scenes, remove the current regime, even though many are of them.
      1.  Do nothing.

What other choices are available to them?

Were they to choose #1, the whole world will recoil in horror.

        #4.

The level of endemic corruption among the top brass in Egypt is hard for Westerners to fathom.  You know how our retired Admirals and Generals get lucrative consulting jobs from defense contractors?

These guys get huge chunks of semi-private Government controlled defense firms.  While they're still serving. Ownership stakes often worth millions.

They should be thought of more as Dukes and Barons than "Generals".

We need to find the middle ground between Heliocentric and Geocentric extremists.
