  •  Well... (0+ / 0-)

...for THEM it's not. For the army it is. And the army is calling the shots. I'm not talking about a choice of ideal hypotheticals, I'm talking about the actual choice.

      •  What would that discussion be? (0+ / 0-)

The army has had the power, throughout, to guide this or end this. And they knew that had that power. They sort of have now after playing stabilizer for 3 weeks. Obviously the entity of "the army" is a simplification. But as an institution it does maintain some cohesion despite the sort of individuality and fissures inherent in any organization.

      •  Oh... (0+ / 0-)

...if you're saying that the army itself would've have sparked the protests, that's true. But that is hardly what I'm referring to when it comes to calling the shots in terms of the transition. A transition discussion presumes the present reality.

    •  It's also worth noting... (0+ / 0-)

...that Suleiman may still be the ostensible president. I don't know that anyone has authoritatively provided proof one way or another on the exact "face" of the (also not definitively proven) post-Mubarak government.
